John Brown’s body(約翰布朗的遺體)這首歌由來已久
原曲最早是出現在美國獨立戰爭的時代
傳唱了快300年,是一首代表美國的經典歌曲之一
也是非常多版本的一首歌
John Brown(1800年5月9日~1859年12月2日)是美國一位主張廢除黑奴的革命烈士
他鼓吹廢除這種蓄奴的不人道思想,積極為廢除奴隸奔走
1859年,約翰布朗武裝起來革命與行動
他率領5位黑人,17位白人攻擊維吉尼亞州(現在的西維吉尼亞)的哈普斯渡口(Harpers Ferry)一座聯邦軍火庫
他與州軍隊+聯邦軍隊激戰
只有22人的隊伍與州+聯邦軍隊的軍隊實力兵力相差太懸殊,
John Brown重傷被俘,並交由法院審判
他在法庭上慷慨激昂的作美國歷史上有名的”最後的陳述”
最後法院以”叛國罪,謀殺罪,鼓動奴隸造反罪”判處他死刑
1859年12月2日,約翰布朗絞刑行刑就義的當天,北方各州降半旗,鳴鐘,建築物懸掛黑布來為他致哀與致上最高的敬意
約翰布朗”廢除奴隸制度”的主張並慷慨就義的精神,感動了北方各州的人民
亞伯拉罕.林肯1861年就任總統,頒布法條,宣布廢除奴隸制度
南方各州紛紛退出聯邦,另選新總統並且宣布獨立
1861年4月12日,美國南北戰爭(American Civil War 美國內戰)爆發
而約翰布朗廢除奴隸制度的主張造成了地區的緊張狀態
也加速了美國南北地區最終的攤牌與翻臉
約翰布朗廢除奴隸制度的主張獲得政府的支持,而作廢奴的施政
經過長達4年(1861年4月12日~1865年4月9日)的南北戰爭
北方聯邦軍隊獲得勝利,並且成功的將”奴隸制度”給廢除
而奴隸也終於獲得了解放
這首John Brown’s body原本並不是為這位廢除奴隸制度的烈士所寫的
這首歌原本是由駐紮在波士頓沃倫堡的第12麻塞諸塞團”猛虎團”所寫的
是在跟當時軍隊中的約翰 布朗中士開玩笑
1861年此曲以”榮耀 哈利路亞”(Glory Glory Hallelujah)的歌名在波士頓發表
立刻變成一首流行的歌曲
於軍隊中傳唱”約翰布朗的遺體” (John Brown’s body),或是稱為”約翰布朗之歌”(John Brown’s song)
而John Brown’s body這首歌曲,在南北戰爭期間,再由（Julia Ward Howe）作詞
變成了”The Battle Hymn of the Republic”(共和國戰歌)

而The Battle Hymn of the Republic由於歌詞內容的關係,受到美國人民喜愛的程度已經超過了John Brown’s body and Glory Glory Halleluhah
2001年HBO自製影集”諾曼第大空降”(Band of Brothers)美軍第101空降師E連要出任務跳傘
一群101空降師的傘兵阿兵哥唱著” Gory， gory， what a hell of way to die.”
這樣的唱法引發我的好奇心,去尋找美國82空降師(82st Airborne Division) and 101空降師(101st Airborne Division)的相關書籍及資料
我在101空降師的資料中找到這首歌,歌名為”Blood On The Risers”(傘繩上的鮮血)
看到了歌詞內容,我笑到肚子痛,狂笑不止,一直到現在只要一聽到這首傘繩上的鮮血我依然還是狂笑
空降師,傘兵,在二次世界大戰時期還算是一種新軍種
尤其是101空降師更是嫩的可以(101空降師成立於1942年8月15日)
在當時101師的士兵裝備使用生疏,訓練不夠紮實,操作不夠熟練
所以當時就產生了許多的意外事件
有別於共和國戰歌那樣的雄壯威武慷慨激昂
這首”Blood On The Risers”是傘兵老兵用來揶揄菜鳥新兵的
也是唱來嚇菜鳥新兵的
傘兵弟兄除了揶揄菜鳥新兵,也揶揄調侃自己
”Blood On The Risers”是美國傘兵部隊的招牌軍歌
也是一首代表美國空降師的歌曲
英國足球超級聯賽名隊Manchester United曼徹斯特聯盟隊(曼聯隊)
隊歌就是以這首”榮耀 哈利路亞”(Glory Glory Hallelujah)所改編的
歌名為”榮耀 曼聯”(Glory Glory Man United)
曼聯隊的隊歌旋律很棒,歌詞也寫得很好
所以這首歌是全世界每一位曼聯的球迷都會唱的
曼聯隊的隊歌也和這首美國古老的歌曲有相關聯
